Alabama Cheerleading
With over thirty years of experience at the University of Alabama, Marion Powell is the coordinator and coach for the Crimson Cabaret dance team. The Crimson Cabaret team is successfully ranked among the nation's finest dance teams and the program has gained recognition for outstanding community service, academic success, and dance achievement. Coach Powell has been recognized by Dr. Robert E. Witt, President of the University of Alabama, for student recruitment efforts and continuing support with Alumni relations at the University of Alabama.
Coach Powell is a native of Tallassee, Alabama, and a graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. and M.A. degree in Business Education/Administration. While a student at Alabama, she was a Crimsonette with the Million Dollar Band under the direction of Dr. James Ferguson, and became the Crimsonette choreographer in the fall of 1979. Her creative style of choreography has been seen at SEC Championships, three National Championship games, over twenty bowl appearances, and nearly 350 Alabama football and basketball games.
After being named the Crimson Cabaret Coordinator in 2004, Coach Powell has led the team to four national rankings in hip hop and jazz competition. The Crimson Cabaret program includes weekly dance and spirit rehearsals, workouts, and dance technique classes. She also serves as a veteran judge for Universal Dance Association's National Dance Team Championships in Orlando, Florida.
Coach Powell spends countless hours doing what she loves: teaching, choreographing, and promoting spirit at the University of Alabama. When asked her favorite song, she replies, Yea Alabama! She contributes her dancing and teaching success to her mother, Annie Katherine Woodall, who was a dance teacher in Elmore County for over 60 years and currently resides in Wetumpka, Alabama. And, her biggest support system is the Powell family which includes husband, Mark Powell ('77 UA Graduate), and sons K.T. Powell ('08 UA Graduate) and Kasey Powell (UA student)
